Lisbon is a gorgeous city and the best part-it’s one of the cheapest cities in Europe I have visited.
Highlights you can’t miss:
1. The Roofless Convento Do Carmen
Due to the 1755 earthquake, this church is left roofless but it’s incredibly charming with it’s mix of random items left here and there.
2. The Castelo Sao Jorge
This castle, perched atop a hill in the Alfama historical district is absolutely charming and worth the pricey entrance fee. The Torre de Ulissess, is particularly interesting because is houses a real periscope, created by da Vinci in the 16th century. You can go in and see how it works, it´s super interesting. Not to mention the views of the city are amazing.
3. The Torre de Belem
This is a tower literally in the water. It’s got gorgeous views and it really reminded me of my favorite painting, Salvador Dali’s The Girl in the Window. (Warning, this requires a bit of trekking to get to…it’s a bit far outside the city, but worth the trip. Take Tram 15 from the main plaza)

4. The Monasterio de los Jeronimos and Monumento de los Descubrimientos
These are both located near the Torre Belem so make sure to take a full afternoon or morning to explore these places. Also, stop at the Pasteis de Belem and try Lisbon’s famous pastry.

5. Simply walk around the main plazas and shopping streets. When everything is all decorated for Christmas it’s beautiful.
